Early Life and Career

John Roberts Jr., the current Chief Justice of the United States, was born in Buffalo, New York on January 27th. Roberts Jr. graduated from Harvard Law School and began his legal career as a clerk for Justice William Rehnquist of the Supreme Court.

Ascension to the Supreme Court

In 2005, President George W. Bush nominated Roberts Jr. to replace the retiring Justice Sandra Day O'Connor. Roberts Jr. was confirmed by the Senate by a vote of 78-22 and took office as Chief Justice on September 29, 2005.

A Conservative Leader

Roberts Jr. is generally considered a conservative justice and has often sided with the Court's conservative bloc on key issues. However, he has also been known to occasionally join with the Court's liberal justices in certain cases.
